Up here in the Whitsundays we get super excited for the Superboats! Each year the Bowen Superboat Festival turns on an electric display of screaming, high performance superboats flashing by in what is the fastest motorsport without wheels.
More than 10 teams compete in the beautiful Edgecumbe Bay highlighting the Bowen Marina, foreshore and the beautiful Whitsunday Isles. The boats travel at break neck speed reaching upwards of 200km, an absolute spectacle to see for all those with a need for speed, noise and water. This is Round 1 of the superboat season and is a free event for all the community to attend.
Bowen Tourism is making sure everyone will be entertained during the festival with a family fun day at the Bowen Soundshell on Sunday the 29th April. The kids will be happy with rides and slides, live entertainment and carnival food. Live music and markets in our beautiful tropical weather will allow you to enjoy the fun and festivities all day. Helicopter joy flights, skydiving and boat tours will ensure that the thrill seekers not part of the superboat action won’t miss out either. Enjoy all this while spectating the great race from the Bowen Jetty.
Also joining in on the festivities this year is the Whitsunday Sporting Car Club hosting a Motorkhana event at the Catalina Carpark at Bowen Front Beach. An obstacle course will be set up for up to 20 of the regions experienced drivers, testing their skills and technique over the quickest time. This event will be held on Saturday 28th April.
